PROJECT SEVIA
PROJECT SEVIA
SEVIA (Seeds of Expertise for the Vegetable Industry of Africa) aims to contribute to the development of the vegetable industry in Africa and to food security. SEVIA holds demonstrations on farms for farmers in different regions of Tanzania on improving cultivation, increasing yields and improving the quality of their vegetable production. Seeing is believing!
SEVIA is a private sector driven project funded by two world leaders in vegetable seeds: East-West Seed and Rijk Zwaan. The project is also funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs while the knowledge institute is Wageningen University in The Netherlands. SEVIA engages local sector professionals of which 14 are extension officers who train farmers.
Achmea HR volunteer Maaike Blansjaar rolled out a Leadership and Train-the-Trainer Programme for the 14 Extension Officers in Moshi.
Maaike Blansjaar, HR Policy Advisor at Achmea Insurance Group, The Netherlands:
“I gave leadership training to a group of extension officers and office staff at SEVIA. I enjoyed the contact I had with the participants and was impressed by their eagerness to learn and to share their knowledge. They gave me a warm welcome and the flexibility to adapt my style to their context in order to create a deeper connection. It was a very good experience. It felt good to contribute to this wonderful organisation.”
