PROJECT CCBRT
PROJECT CCBRT
CCBRT (Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania) is the largest rehabilitation- and disability service provider in Tanzania.
Focus areas are ophthalmology, orthopaedic and rehabilitation, plastic- and reconstructive surgery, and maternal- and newborn health services. CCBRT operates the country’s largest obstetric fistula programme and leads in cleft lip/palate and clubfoot treatments.
Combined with a strong presence in the community, CCBRT’s expertise is also mobilised to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and promote disability inclusion. CCBRT seeks to provide accessiblespecialized healthcare for all Tanzanians in need. All children under the age of five, and the most vulnerable patients, receive care for free.
To ensure accessibility, clients receive care at subsidised rates, but can choose additional amenities through the private services, whose revenue cross-subsidises free and standard care. http://www.ccbrt.or.tz
The Achmea – SPICA assignment at CCBRT (February 2020):
The goal of this assignment was to advice CCBRT on potential gaps in policies and procedures, and to advise them on the process for maintaining it in a structural way. Focus was on the supporting departments, not on the clinical side of CCBRT.
Policy compliance is important for CCBRT because they are expanding rapidly and because of this, policies and procedures become more important. Also donors are rising their demands for policy compliancy.
“…Despite the fact that our organisation has gathered a wide variety of policies, procedures and guidelines over the years, it was very clear that we were lacking a comprehensive overview and therefore it was difficult to identify what to review or what to develop. As technical expert, Abel was able to scan our organisational policy framework from governance to operational level in a very short time frame. He not only assisted in the identification of critical gaps and risks, but he was also very instrumental to our departmental managers in creating a better understanding of the concepts policy versus procedure. Abel helped us to craft our policy roadmap for the future. Asante Sana !…”

“…CCBRT employees and management told and showed me their gratitude for doing this assignment concerning Policy Framework. They were very happy with the results and output delivered. Meaning that the goals have been achieved ! It’s now up to CCBRT to make the next steps in their policy process. I am sure they can, and will do it !…“.
